The Captain Cook Hotel is the first hotel on Christmas Island, named after Captain James Cook, a famous English explorer, who discovered Christmas Island on Christmas Eve 1777. Built on historical footings from a ruined British military base during early occupation of Christmas Island for bomb tests, the Captain Cook Hotel has been continuously owned by the Government of Kiribati and has accommodated many travelers and fishermen visiting Christmas Island since 1975. The hotel is nestled within sight and earshot of the island’s barrier reef and the ocean will lull you to sleep at night especially when the surf breaks over it in a distance.
The Hotel has three campuses: the Main Camp, Sea breeze and the Bathing. The main Camp is situated 10 minute drive from the international airport and sitting next to the Ocean Beach. The Main Camp has 20 bungalows and 24 standard rooms. Sea Breeze Campus is located in London, the Capital town of Kiritimati islands, has 4 luxurious rooms. The third campus is the Bathing. Bathing comprised of local houses, a few open raised floor houses and one maneaba adjacent to the sea.
The Captain Cook Hotel is operated by an English-speaking staff, and is nestled within sight and earshot of the island's barrier reef. The hotel’s pleasantly decorated rooms offer air conditioning. They are all on one floor and open onto a courtyard facing the beach and the sea. Each room has a small refrigerator and private bathroom, which includes a stall shower heated by solar energy. There are also attractive, thatch-roofed cottages situated along the beach. The dining will include ample portions of a variety of hearty meals as well as some exotic dishes and fresh seafoods. Meats and vegetables are flown in from Hawaii, so there's no concern about stomach disorders. Groups are treated to a weekly outdoor luau, featuring fresh lobsters and complete with traditional native singing and dancing. The comfortable Frigate Bar in the hotel or the open-air Maneaba on the beach is where the gang usually gathers each evening to spin yarns of record bonefish that got away or the ravages of imposing trevally. Both are always well-stocked, there's plenty of ice. Captain Cook Hotel is looking for travel agents & business associates who can provide business to the hotel on commission.
